The KU WIMS organization is committed to serve all faculty and trainees from the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and the School of Health Professions. Our mission is focused on advancing the careers of women in the fields of medicine and science through development of mentoring, networking, and faculty retention. We believe that highest faculty retention can only be achieved through faculty who are highly satisfied and successful with their careers. Our infrastructure includes an Executive Council and Program, Recognition, and Mentoring committees, all comprised of member representatives from the 3 schools on campus. We provide programs for professional career development, educational seminars, presentations on physical and mental health-related topics, and social events.
Our organization offers financial support to attend AAMC Early and Mid-Career Professional Development Seminars, as well as Awards and Recognition for Teaching/Research/Leadership. With the guidance and support of our Joy McCann Professorship for Women in Medicine in Science, KU WIMS is committed to focus on helping women faculty achieve promotion of their academic rank and career longevity at KUMC. The KU WIMS organization collaborates with KU Endowment, KU Auxiliary, KU Alumni Association, and others in the Kansas City area and supports activities related to increasing visibility of our faculty as well as educational opportunities for our community. The Women in Medicine and Science organization maintains an affiliation with the American Association of Medical College’s (AAMC) GWIMS and the Society for Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM).
