OnLine Cardiovascular Guidelines, Recommendations & Statements
Introduction
Many professional societies
publish practice guidelines, policy statements and consensus
documents. Sometimes these are posted on the Internet. In the instance of cardiovascular
diseases, the American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACC) and
the American College of Physicians (ACP) have been reasonably prolific.
The material referenced
from this page is largely full-text publications by national specialty societies. Some
topics provide links to more detailed material, such as tables and figures that provide
quick information about a particular clinical question. Additional material, prepared
specifically for this site, may provide a "Synopsis", "Introduction" or "Overview" that summarizes information available at a
distant site or additional information not readily available elsewhere.
Contents of some of the links
are outlined below. To view, just click on the underlined link to the topic of your choice
on the left. Some ACP material requires a user ID and password. Medical students can
obtain these free at www.acponline.org.
