ST segment elevation

• Begins within minutes to hours of clinical onset
• Initial straightening with loss of j point and ST-T angle
• T-wave broadening
• Upward concavity replaced by convexity
• Elevation can be subtle to extreme [*]

ST segment elevation does not always indicate new infarction

• Transient due to variant (Prinzmetal’s) angina [*]
• Transient due to recurrent ischemia in area of previous infarction
• Transient with subsequent development of inverted T waves with or without Q wave development and/or infarction
• Persistent in area of previous infarction and dyskinesis
