Telephone Set Policy
All digital and Voice Over IP (VOIP) telephones in use on this campus (University, KUPI, and Hospital) must be acquired through the Department of Information Resources, Office of Telecommunications. Our telephone system allows for various features and functions that require proprietary Avaya digital and VOIP equipment to work correctly.
Customers may provide their own analog telephones or purchase analog telephones through our department. Analog telephones must be connected to an analog jack/line. Please be aware that our department will not support or service the analog telephone if it is not purchased through our department. Also note that not all of the features of these analog telephones will work on our system (IE. caller ID, call waiting, voice mail lights may not work, etc.). Telecommunications can provide analog phones with full feature functionality for modest prices.
74XX Telephones at KU Medical Center (updated July 1, 2007)

Effective with the beginning of Fiscal Year 2008 we will no longer be installing or replacing existing AT&T 74XX telephones which become broken or unserviceable. This series of equipment was at end of sales in the early 1990’s and there is no longer AT&T support for this equipment. Replacement parts are also widely unavailable.
Beginning July 2007 the monthly maintenance charge for the 74XX sets will be discontinued. You will need to replace these sets as they break with a new digital set.
In order to assist with the transition to a newer model digital set and to offset the one-time cost we will also waive the move or upgrade work order charges normally charged as we replace the 74XX phones.
Telecommunications suggest the Avaya 6400 Series for University users and the Avaya 2400 Series for Hospital users.
