Change in Wyoming Licensing Laws Encourage Use of Telemedicine to Fill Coverage Gaps

Changes in Wyoming's medical licensure requirements encourage outside physicians to provide care where it is needed via telemedicine. Despite record numbers of physicians obtaining licenses to practice medicine in Wyoming, only 27 percent of those licensed since 2005 practice full-time in the state. According to the president of the Wyoming Board of Medicine, James Anderson, MD, this disparity is due to an increase in providers "who practice telemedicine and otherwise may never set foot in the state, or who want to help a Wyoming hospital cover a short-term physician coverage. "
