KU Center for Telemedicine & Telehealth is currently negotiating with insurance carriers regarding reimbursement for telemedicine consultations. Some insurance carriers provide telemedicine coverage, and more are
expected to do so in the near future. As more insurance carriers begin reimbursing for telemedicine, your insurance
status may change.
-
If the patient’s insurance carrier currently reimburses for telemedicine, it will be billed in the
same manner as for a traditional consultation. In that event, the patient is
responsible for any deductibles, coinsurance, remaining balances, or
co-payments.
- Some insurance carriers require a referral and/or an authorization prior
to treatment. It is the patient's responsibility to obtain these.
- Patients at TeleKidcare schools have different financial obligations in
2008-2009 than in previous years. Please contact Gretchen Patch (913)588-2352 if
you have any questions about TeleKidcare.
If there are any questions about whether telemedicine is covered by insurance, please
have the patient contact their insurance carrier.
