Dr. Nelson speaks on quality healthcare & cultural diversity
Dr.
Eve-Lynn Nelson, Assistant Director of Research for the
University of Kansas Center for Telemedicine and Telehealth,
presented at the National Conference on Quality Health Care for
Culturally
Diverse
Populations
in
Seattle. The
500+ conference highlighted leading work in the areas of health
care
quality as well as cultural competence and disparities reduction.
KUCTT participated in the conference's first "technology
salon" in which presenters gave interactive demonstrations
of how technology can be used creatively to address health disparities.
Dr. Nelson connected with pediatric educator Kathy Davis for
a live demonstration of televideo applications. Conference attendees
were particularly interested in televideo applications for urban
and rural settings and in televideo with limited English proficiency
patients. The
presentation addressed not only telemedicine's benefits for
families, but also benefits allowing trainees to interact
with diverse
community members.
