Dr. Wood received a joint appointment as a member of the Department
of Surgery in 2006. He is also an Associate Professor in the
Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology which he joined
in 1996.
His research interests focus on microvascular inflammation in
various settings. He has had a very successful collaboration
with Dr. Norberto C. Gonzalez, Professor in the Department of
Molecular and Integrative Physiology, on projects examining the
mechanisms responsible for microvascular inflammation to acute
system hypoxia as well as microvascular acclimatization to hypoxia.
In addition, he has collaborated for several years with Dr. Michael
Moncure on projects related to hemorrhagic shock-induced microvascular
injury as well as protective effects of heme oxygenase in this
model. Several surgical residents have been involved in these
projects, including Dr. Al Casillan and Dr. James Howard.
Dr. Wood enjoys spending time with his wife Laurie, an Administrative
Officer in the Department of Surgery, and his daughters.
