I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. I attended Creighton
University followed by Creighton University Medical School. My
general surgical residency was done at the Ohio State University
Hospitals, then a pediatrics surgery residency at Columbus Children's
Hospital. I went into practice for the first 12 years in Memphis,
Tennessee, where I practiced at St. Jude's Children's Research
Hospital and the LeBonheur Children's Hospital. In 2002 I was
recruited to the University of Kansas Medical Center and have
been the general surgery program director since late 2004.
I am married and have 3 children, the oldest in college at TCU,
and the youngest in middle school. I have many hobbies, including
being a "handyman," running, biking, water and snow skiing. I
have a pilot's license that I don't use often and I love SCUBA
diving.
