Christian Jones, MD
Graduated from Harvey Mudd College in 1999
with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. After completing
his Bachelors, Dr. Jones went on to the University of Florida
and received his Masters in Mathematics in 2001. In 2007,
Dr. Jones was awarded his MD from the University of Southern
California. He is planning to specialize in Trauma/Critical
Care/Acute Care Surgery after finishing his General Surgery training. Dr.
Jones considers himself a slight “late-comer” to
Surgery after previous careers in Mathematics and Computer Science,
but he is looking to combine the science and logical methodology
with the reward of treating acutely ill and injured patients. If

Stephanie Cohen, MD
Graduated from Saint Louis University in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry. Dr. Cohen then continued on at Saint Louis University, receiving her Masters of Science in Biology in 2003 prior to entering medical school. Dr. Cohen went on to obtain her MD from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2007. She just returned to the clinical aspect of residency as a PGY-4 after spending a year in a basic science laboratory in the Surgery Dept here at KUMC, pursuing bench research in surgical oncology. Dr. Cohen plans to pursue a fellowship in either Plastics or Surgical Oncology upon completion of residency and would like to continue on to a career in academics with a research lab of her own in the future. Casey Hertzenberg, MD
Graduated from Kansas State University in 2004 with a BS in Biology. Obtained my MD after graduating from KU School of Medicine in 2008. I am married with no kids yet and have a strong interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery, however, I am keeping my options open.
Travis Pollema, DO
Graduated from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa in 2004 with a Bachelors degree in Biology. Received his DO degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 2008. Travis is unsure at this time whether he will pursue a fellowship in a surgical subspecialty or enter private practice at the completion of his surgical training. Amit Taggar, MD
Graduated with a Bachelors in Science at Georgia Tech in 2004 and then went on to complete his MD at Ross University in 2008. As a former collegiate tennis player he enjoys playing tennis as well as spending time with his beautiful niece and family. Dr. Taggar is looking to pursue a fellowship in either Plastics, Colorectal, or Vascular Surgery upon completion of residency. Graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 2003 with a BS in Exercise Science. After graduation she became a Health Fitness Instructor certified by the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Heimes returned to school and was awarded her DO degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri in 2009. Dr. Strain, a Kansas City native, graduated from the University of Missouri - Kansas City 6-year combined BA/MD program in 2009. At KU, he is currently focusing on his General Surgery training, but is interested in pursuing a career in a surgical subspecialty. Outside of work, he enjoys listening to music and spending time with friends and family.

Graduated from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas in 2006 with a BS in Chemistry. He then attended Medical School at KU, graduating in 2010. Dr. Grove is married to his beautiful wife Sharon, with no children as of yet. He is an avid outdoorsman, and loves all facets of outdoor sports. He plans to enter private practice General Surgery following the completion of his Residency.
