Dr. Moncure spent his transplanted childhood in Oakland, California
(he was actually born in Japan). After finishing high school,
he went on to the University of Southern California were he graduated
with his degree in Biomedical Engineering. He then went
on to pursue his MD at the University of Washington School of
Medicine. In 1988, the now Dr. Moncure went on to finish
his Residency in General Surgery at Howard University in D.C. While
at Howard, Dr. Moncure was bitten by the Trauma/Critical Care “bug”. He
fellowshipped in both at the University of Maryland, Shock Trauma
Center. After completing his fellowship in 1994, He went
on to his first Academic appointment at the University Medical
and Dental of New Jersey.
Dr. Moncure joined the KUMC family in 1998. Among his
many outstanding duties he is the Director of Trauma, and the
former Director of our SICU. In 2000, Dr. Moncure was instrumental
in achieving the American College of Surgeons Level 1 certification
for our Trauma Program and has maintained that certification
since. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005. Dr.
Moncure is one of the driving forces behind our Laparoscopic
program and in the research arm of the Residency. Dr. Moncure
enjoys complex cases, and is a strong patient/family advocate.
In his “spare time” Dr. Moncure enjoys spending
time with his four wonderful children and loves to travel. Among
his many talents, he plays jazz piano and is a voracious football
fan.
