Dr. McGinness grew up on a farm in Aulne, Kansas, attending
a one room schoolhouse with one classmate in first through third
grades, and was the only fourth grader with 12 other students
in grades 1-8. After graduating from Marion High School
with a class of 72, she attended Oral Roberts University on a
music scholarship, finishing with a B.A. in Piano Performance
in 1976.
It became obvious after having two piano students that another
career was necessary (for sanity), so she chose medicine, completing
her M.D. at Oral Roberts University, in 1982.
She completed an Internship and Residency at the University
of Kansas in general surgery and then moved to Lawrence, KS,
where she practiced for 20 years.
The last 10 of those years were spent developing an interest
and expertise in Breast Surgery, which prepared her for her current
appointment to the KU faculty as Assistant Professor of Breast
Surgery. She enjoys bringing a personal touch to state
of the art, top notch breast care.
She enjoys playing the piano, reading, gardening, and sewing – she’s
currently making scrubs, but has been crazy enough to tackle
a Tuxedo.
