The School of Medicine enrolls
175 students each year in the 4-year MD program. The Medical
Center has approved residency or fellowship programs in all major
clinical disciplines as well as graduate programs in basic sciences
.
The hospital-medical school complex is situated on a 50 acre
campus, is composed of 35 buildings and houses 484 beds with
approximately 14,000 yearly admissions. The outpatient facilities
offer daily clinics with 350,000 yearly visits .
Patients are referred to the Medical Center by physicians in
private practice, by various local and state welfare organizations
and through the emergency department. The emergency service has
26,000 visits per year and receives a large portion of the metropolitan
area's major trauma, as well as major trauma from all over the
state via helicopter and fixed-winged aircraft.
