Dr. Cockrell was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended
a small liberal Arts College, Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi,
West Virginia. After graduation, she worked as a Research
Associate at Case Western University for 5 years before returning
to Medical School at the University of Cincinnati.
She then traveled to New York City for residency at Harlem Hospital
in General Surgery.
Upon finishing residency, she completed a year of Critical Care
and Endoscopy.
She moved on to Atlanta and worked for Morehouse School of Medicine
with a practice in Trauma and General Surgery at Grady Memorial
Hospital. When an opportunity for additional training in Burns
came she moved to Baltimore and completed a Burn Fellowship at
Johns Hopkins Burn Center.
While in Baltimore Dr. Cockrell also had the opportunity to
be involved in the care of Chronic Wound patients, and this now
is a special interest.
Dr. Cockrell’s professional interests include: Burn and wound
care and wound healing, and her personal interests are Tai Chi
and playing classical guitar.
