The Latino Midwest Medical Student Association at the University of Kansas School of Medicine is dedicated to serving the Kansas City community through its activities. Consisting of a diverse array of medical students and other health professionals at KUMC, the LMMSA seeks to find better ways to care for Kansas City's large Hispanic population as well as its other medically and socially underserved populations. Members are often highly involved in a variety of community service activities, and many have an interest in learning the Spanish language or experiencing the diversity of Latino Culture.

Membership is open to all medical students at KUMC. Meetings occur every month while school is in session, and the LMMSA frequently has volunteer opportunities, notable speakers invited to address relevant issues, and entertaining cultural activities throughout the year. See the "Events" link above for more details about our activities.

The National Network of Latin American Medical Students (NNLAMS) is a 501(c) non-profit organization comprised of five regional chapters. These regions include the Western (LMSA), South-Western, South-Eastern, Mid-Western, and North-Eastern (NBLHO) NNLAMS regions of the United States. Together, these five regions represent the entire United States medical schools with all of its active Latino/a medical student members.

In March 2006, students from LMMSA-KUMC attended the 10th Annual NHMA national conference in Washington DC and integrated into NNLAMS to improve communication among other hispanic medical students throughout the country, become more involved with the national issues facing hispanics in terms of health care, and apply this knowledge to student efforts in Kansas City.
