Meeting called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Cindy Teel. The minutes were reviewed from the April 11, 2001 Executive Board Meeting and approved with corrections.
Cindy Teel shared a letter she received from the KU Student Nurses organization, requesting a monetary donation to help reimburse the students who attended the 49th Annual Convention recently held in Nashville Tennessee. It was discussed that we had already set aside $100 in our budget for this donation, and therefore it was agreed to support them with this amount. Karen Wambach will send them a check.
Karen Wambach shared her Treasurer’s report. (See Attachment I) Karen highlighted that we had recent large deposits due to money collected from the new inductees.
Cindy Teel attended the ‘Professional Development Conference’ m with Julie Koehler in Chicago and brought back ‘Officer Resource Packets’ for board members. She asked that each officer to review the packets and add to the material in order to aid the application process for the chapter Key Award.
Diana Reiser reminded everyone that the Spring Induction Banquet is at the Ritz Charles on Thursday May 17. She requested assistance at the registration table, and Karen Wambach and Jo Ellen Greischar-Billiard volunteered. Sara Forbes will organize the inductees and Naomi King will read off their names. Meena Patel will assist Karen Wambach with photographs, Sandy Hanson will be in charge of the signature book, and Jo Ellen Greischar- Billiard will give the new members their packets. Dean Miller will give a short talk, and Cindy Teel will share the power point presentation regarding Sigma Theta Tau. Those at the head table will include Dean Karen Miller, Diane Reiser, Naomi King, Sara Forbes, Julie Koehler and Susan Parker and Cindy Teel. To date there are 56 inductees able to attend, with 4 in abstention. One master’s student decided against joining. There are 158 who have sent an RSVP for the dinner. Karen Wambach will notify board members know when the inductee materials have arrived seeking assistance in preparing their packets.
Community Service Sandy Hanson reported that Jackie Nowak with the representative from Delco delivered a new pulse oximeter to the Health Partnership Clinic in Overland Park. Some publicity from Nursing News is still hoped for.
Cindy Teel brought up for discussion what the chapter might do for ‘New Inductee Orientation’. Ideas such as have an ‘on-line orientation’ available through our web site, and direct new members to it with the fall newsletter was considered. Another option would be to have all the new members receive a phone call inviting them to attend their first meeting in the fall. We also could have them stand up and be recognized, and be eligible for door prizes. Meena agreed to write up a one page welcome and information page for new inductees.
Cindy shared that Delta Chapter is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this year, and we are the 3rd oldest chapter in the organization’s history. International suggests that chapters include formal recognition, dinners, teas, receptions etc for anniversaries. It was decided to do something in the fall, perhaps tied to our fall membership meeting.
STTI Biennial Convention awards were submitted for the Dean’s Award, and the Technology award. The chapter should be notified by July 1, if either nomination has been chosen.
Sandy Hanson of the by-Laws Committee had nothing to report.
Julie Koehler had nothing to report from the Nominating Committee. The new officers will be announced at the Induction Banquet on May 17, 2001.
Susan Parker reported that the Awards committee had made the following awards: Carolyn Graff will receive the PhD student award; Jan Wilson will receive the masters student award, and Jennifer Pickard will receive the baccalaureate student award. Susan Bennett RN, FMP will receive the Clinical Practice Award. Each of the awardees will be honored at the banquet. Susan reminded everyone that the next application period for the Research and Travel awards would be in the fall.
The next board meeting will be the Transition meeting, for both incoming and outgoing executive board members. This will most likely be held before the fall semester starts around the 3rd week in August.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
