Meeting called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Cindy Teel. Reviewed minutes from November. 2, 2000 Executive Board Meeting and the Fall Business Meeting. The minutes were approved with corrections.
Karen Wambach gave the Treasurer's report. See attachment I. She also shared an `Itemized Categories Report for 7/1/00 through 1/16/01, that the Quicken program was able to generate. See attachment II.
Diana Reiser shared information on the Spring Induction Banquet scheduled for May 17, 2001. Guest speakers were discussed. In order to maintain the focus of the induction for the new members, it was decided to invite Dean Karen Miller to speak to the inductees. Diane will make these arrangements. A presentation regarding Sigma Theta Tau International using slides or PowerPoint is also available, and can be presented. Diana will continue to work on arrangements including flowers, and menu.
Cindy Teel spoke about the Professional Development Conference and Chapter Leader Academy that will be held April 27-28, 2001 in Chicago. Reservations need to be in by 4/4/01. If any board member is interested in attending, she should contact Cindy before the next board meeting.
Cindy also shared information about the `Wisdom Council Breakfast and Focus Group'. This group is for members who are soon to retire, or who have recently retired, in order to keep them active in the organization and utilize their experiences and wisdom. Members from our chapter that came to mind include but are not limited to: Melba Carter, Mary Ann Kasper, and Pat Walstedt.
Sigma Theta Tau International update includes information for the Spring Region 2 Connection Newsletter. Cindy shared information she submitted for the newsletter regarding our chapter- and hopes that it will be printed in the next issue. International has alerted all chapters as to the possibility of inviting a non-nurse as a special honorary member of Sigma Theta Tau. Discussion revolved around selection criteria, and who would be responsible for the annual dues. If such a member from the community was eligible for this distinction, it was decided that the chapter would pay his/her dues. At this time, no particular person has come to mind. Heritage of STT information is now on line at www.nursingsociety.org, about Sigma Theta Tau international.
Cindy brought up the idea of submitting nominations for awards at the November Convention. Barb and Cindy agreed to submit the material for Dean Karen Miller for the
Outstanding Dean Award. Jo Ellen agreed to consider submitting a nomination with Jeanne Schott and Jo Ann Lierman for a Technology Award. Another option is to approach Janet Pierce for her on-line Pathophysiology course.
Barb Langner shared that she is on the Sigma Theta Tau International PR committee and they are asking for increased awareness of bringing `nurses' into the spotlight. STTI would like to see nurses and nursing more prominent with the media.
Cindy was approached regarding a Community Service Project request for funding for a pulse oximeter for Health Partnership Clinic in Overland Park. The written request came from a member Mariza Greenwald. The Community service request included equipment quotes of $560 and $629, which exceeded our budget allotment, so Sandy & Naomi agreed to get additional pricing information.
Committee report from Jackie Nowak regarding the Spring Newsletter included a request for materials to be received by her no later than March 1, 2001. If anyone has photographs of STT activities, she could add them to our newsletter. Jackie brought up the need to send a postcard informing members of the Spring Business Meeting and Program. Cindy will contact Diana Rieser to see what progress has been made on this meeting. Suggestions for speakers included past recipients of awards.
Nominating Committee. Julie Koehler was out of town, and unable to share a report. Cindy will contact her regarding the slate of nominees for the open Board positions.
Naomi King reported that Elaine Brinson would be calculating the grades; so as to determine which senior students are eligible for membership. She will gather that material and have it ready before the spring meeting, when the slate of inductees is voted on.
Meena Patel of the Membership Involvement Committee generated discussion on ways to involve more members on our committees. Ways to promote interest included letters to be sent to inactive members, personal approach at the Spring Banquet sign-in table and a `Committee Poster Session' at the cocktail party portion of the Banquet. These ideas will be discussed further at the February meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday February 14, 2001 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. 3025 School of Nursing.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
