Recognition Ceremony Overview
The 2013 University of Kansas School of Nursing Recognition Ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. As a recognition ceremony, and not a graduation event, family and friends are close enough to see students, and is an opportunity for individual acknowledgement of student accomplishments. There is no limit to the number of guests, and tickets are not required.
Doctoral Hooding Ceremony Overview
The University’s Doctoral Hooding Ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Lied Center on the Lawrence Campus. Both PhD and DNP graduates from the School of Nursing are welcome to participate in the ceremony; however, the Office of Graduate Studies on the Lawrence Campus must be notified of your intent to participate. University Commencement Overview
The University of Kansas Commencement is scheduled to take place at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Memorial Stadium on the Lawrence Campus. For additional information about University Commencement, click here.
Directions, Parking and Accommodations
The event will be held at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, 600 N. 7th Street Trafficway in Kansas City, Kan. Parking lots are available in the area, including free on-street parking on weekends. Click here for parking options . near Memorial Hall. Please use the Memorial Hall Driveway just south of the building for handicapped/wheelchair access. Memorial Hall has wheelchair access, but does not have a supply of wheelchairs. If wheelchair accommodations are needed for a family member or friend, please bring a wheelchair to the ceremony. If you will graduate in Spring 2013 – or if you will be a Summer 2013 or Fall 2013 graduate and intend to participate in Recognition Ceremony in Spring 2013 – please order commencement regalia at your earliest convenience. Regalia is worn at all School of Nursing related graduation events (School of Nursing Recognition Ceremony, KU Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, University Commencement). Regalia is available in the KUMC Bookstore. Do not purchase your regalia online; instead, visit or call (913.588.2494) the KUMC Bookstore. Please make arrangements for regalia by mid-April at the latest. Late orders cannot be guaranteed delivery. Also be advised that regalia may not be available for those who make their arrangements after mid-April.
Within the School of Nursing, the following regalia are appropriate:
BSN graduates (both basic BSN and RN-BSN/MS)
Bachelor’s gown and mortarboard; apricot tassel
Master’s gown and mortarboard, master’s hood (gold), black tassel.
(NOTE: Tentative August 2013 and December 2013 graduates may either wear or carry their hood.)
Post-Master’s Certificate completers
Your choice of MS cap/gown/hood or dressy street clothes
Doctoral gown, tam, doctoral hood (dark blue/royal), old gold tassel. (NOTE: doctoral graduates will carry their hoods until they are officially hooded at doctoral hooding ceremony.)
Doctoral gown, tam, doctoral hood (apricot), apricot tassel. (NOTE: doctoral graduates will carry their hoods until they are officially hooded at doctoral hooding ceremony.)
Appropriate gown, mortarboard/tam, gown and hood as appropriate for highest degree earned. Contact the KUMC Bookstore if you do not own your own regalia.
GradImages is the official photographer for event. Proofs will be sent to you via e-mail within three to five days after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online, by phone or by mail. Contact GradImages at 1-8002612576 or by clicking here.
Registering with GradImages provides them with the information they need to deliver your graduation proofs to you in a timely manner. Giving them an accurate mailing address and email address will allow them to get your proofs to you on the first try. You may also provide them with email addresses of up to six friends and family members to allow them to celebrate in the accomplishment. Once you have access GradImages’ website, click on the “Pre-Event Registration” tab at the top of the page, type “Nursing” into the search box, scroll through the list and click on the “Univ. of Kansas Nursing” link.
