Professional Integrity System (PROFITS) Hearing Procedures

  1. Review Hearing Procedure— Chair (KUMC Student Planner and Handbook, page , V., B., 10).
    1. Introductions—name and role in this hearing (i.e., students involved, advisors, faculty involved, hearing committee member—level representing)
    2. Official record of these proceedings will be the tape recording (section e.).
    3. Chair will decide all questions of procedure, evidence, and conduct of the proceedings. (V., B., 10., b.)
    4. Chair’s direction:

  9. Notification of findings
    1. Chair notifies Dean Karen Miller of recommendation within 2 academic days of formulation. (V., B., 14.)
    2. The Dean notifies student(s) in writing within 10 academic days of formulation. (V., B., 15.)
    3. The Dean notifies the Hearing Chair of the decision in the most expeditious manner. (V., B., 15.)
    4. The Hearing chair notifies the person reporting that an investigation has been conducted and that appropriate action has been taken. (V., B.,17.)
  10. Confidentiality and Permanent Record (V., B., 15.)
    1. All records and evidence from the hearing will be collected by the Chairperson before the hearing panel disbands and secured in the Student Affairs Office for five years.
    2. All photocopied documentation will be shredded by Student Affairs staff immediately following this session.
  11. Identify issues to be addressed in the future, if necessary.
    1. Propose revisions to PROFITS Blueprint.
    2. Propose revisions to Faculty Bylaws.
