The five microskills of clinical teaching were first described by Neher and colleagues. These skills provide a practical method for structuring teaching interactions. The skills may be utilized in one on one encounters with students or small group teaching settings. The skills allow the clinical preceptor to take advantage of “teachable moments” that occur throughout a day of patient care.
