Mary D. Virden, MSE, RN

Administrator, Silver City Health Center
Mary D. Virden, MSE, RN, currently is clinical assistant professor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She also serves as Director of Clinical Services for the School's nursing corporation, KU Health Partners, Inc. In this capacity, she is the Administrator for KU Health Partners' nurse-managed center, Silver City Health Center. Her diversified experience includes management in acute care hospitals, non-profit quality improvement organizations, and for-profit health information technology organizations, national and international consulting (aligned with ISO), and academic appointments in nursing and medicine.
Virden brings over 30 years of experience to her work in healthcare education, quality improvement and consultation. A Nebraska native, Ms. Virden received a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master’s degree in Education (Health Education and Exercise Physiology) from the University of Kansas.
Areas of management and consulting expertise include business enterprise development and operations, project management, work process analysis and redesign, quality improvement and outcomes measurement, leadership coaching, and regulatory and quality standards interpretation and analysis.
Ms. Virden has co-authored numerous web-based and computer-based professional training modules for non-profit, for-profit and academic organizations. She is a past recipient of the Kansas Hospital Association’s Distinguished Service Award and Cerner, Inc.’s Best Community Award. Ms. Virden holds memberships in the Health Information Management Systems Society and Sigma Theta Tau, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved, and serves as chair of the Safety Net Coalition of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties.
