After receiving her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri, Melinda Krautmann became a visiting nurse at the U.S. Naval Base in Rota, Spain. There she taught childbirth, infant care and breastfeeding classes, conducted support groups, and made home visits to new mothers and infants.
After earning her Masters in Health Education, she provided diabetes education at the Scott and White Clinic in College Station, TX. Her bilingual skills in English and Spanish allowed her to serve a diverse range of patients. Later she became an admissions nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, TX, a care coordinator and program manager for an outpatient rehabilitation center and a director of nurses for a community-based family practice residency clinic.
In 2002 she came to Kansas as a Care Coordinator at the Assessment Center of Saint Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park. Krautmann also opened her private business, Options for Health, L.L.C., where she provides patient advocacy, health coaching, self-care, and English-Spanish translation in health care settings.
In addition to her business, Krautmann currently practices as community health educator at the Bethel Neighborhood Center in Kansas City, KS. She coordinates community health activities for KU family practice resident physicians and teaches the clinical portion of Nursing of Adult Populations for School of Nursing. She serves on the board of the Greater Kansas City Health Ministries Association and on the health advisory council for Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, KS and Midwest Bioethics Center.
