An assistant clinical professor at the KU School of Nursing, Eldonna Sylvia, MN, provides clinical instruction to graduate students in the nurse practitioner program. Sylvia, through a joint appointment as a family nurse practitioner in the school's family medicine department, provides primary care across a patient's life span.
She now teaches and practices nursing in western Kansas. Her teaching responsibilities are based in Garden City, where she directs the Nurse Practitioner program. She practices as a Nurse Practitioner in a rural clinic where she sees patients across the life span. She also participates in a federally funded grant on Women's Health. This grant enables her to integrate community service, education and research with her practice. Her interest in rural health is a further extension of her life long concern for the health of the community. She conducts research in the areas of depression, leadership and health literacy.
Sylvia earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her master of nursing degree from the University of Kansas. Sylvia continues to explore her field by travelling to underdeveloped countries and providing care to medically underserved communities.
