Dr. Scheibmeir joined the faculty in 1999 after completing her dissertation. Dr. Scheibmeir brings with her 20 years of experience as a family nurse practitioner. She has worked in out-patient clinics in rural and urban setting performing primary and urgent care to patients of all ages.
Dr. Scheibmeir is actively involved in the family nurse practitioner program at KU, educating students both in the classroom and in the clinical setting. Along with her active practice and teaching schedule, Dr. Scheibmeir has been developing a program of research that focuses on maternal smoking.
Since 1997, Dr. Scheibmeir has been actively engaged in research with this population. She just concluded an NIH-funded study that examined the coping strategies of low-income pregnant women attempting smoking cessation. Her current study is pilot testing the use of the Quit Key device to assist pregnant women with smoking cessation.
