Dr. Bosak comes to the KU School of Nursing as an assistant professor. Dr. Kelly Bosak received a PhD in Nursing (2007) from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  Her research was partially funded by a grant from the American Heart Association (#0610096Z). Her dissertation used clinical trial methods to develop a physical activity intervention specifically targeted to reduce cardiovascular disease risk in adults with the metabolic syndrome.  Dr. Bosak’s dissertation (Bosak, 2007) was selected for a graduate student award at the Midwest Nursing Research Society conference. She also earned funding for her doctoral research from local, regional, and national competitive grants, including a grant from the Nebraska Health System, Clinical Research Center for laboratory work, a Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing, Gamma Pi Chapter research award, and Phi Delta Gamma, Nu Chapter research award for intervention development. Dr. Bosak’s career goals are to conduct clinical trials to support exercise and other cardiovascular risk reduction interventions using persuasive, motivational intervention strategies, which are grounded in Social Cognitive Theory and behavioral modification principles, and specifically tailored to Internet-accessible mobile devices (e.g., mobile phones; personal digital assistants). The ultimate goal of this research is translation of evidence-based interventions into clinical practice.
Dr. Bosak is also a certified Adult Nurse Practitioner with a focus in preventive Cardiology.

She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, America Heart Association, and Midwest Nursing Research Society.
