Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs)

Graduate Teaching Assistants provide feedback to undergraduate nursing students during skill practice sessions and validate that competency has been demonstrated in a variety of clinical procedures.

Graduate students interested in a GTA appointment should apply directly to the KUSON Clinical Learning Lab. Please fill out the GTA application & applicant certification forms. Return your application and certification forms to room 1020 in the School of Nursing building.

Employment Requirements

  • GTAs are required to remain enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the fall or spring term and 3 hours for the summer term. Students who are post-comprehensive plus 18 credit hours may enroll in just one or more credit hours of dissertation, thesis or equivalent work approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies. Total withdrawal from the University or enrollment in less than the minimum hours for the term will result in termination of employment as a GTA. Termination of said employment before the last day of the applicable term will result in the student being obligated to pay additional tuition and fees as the result of reassessment to the non-GTA rates.
  • Detailed policies regarding minimum enrollment are detailed on pages 30-31 of the Graduate School Catalog.
  • During the term of appointment, the GTA must be in good academic standing and make satisfactory progress toward a graduate degree. A graduate student must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 to remain in good academic standing.
