The student must be currently licensed to practice as a
registered nurse, hold current affirmation card for BLS, and admitted to the
RN completion program.
The student initiates the challenge exam process by
contacting Jeanne Schott, the RN advisor for the online baccalaureate
nursing program, at 913-588-1625 or e-mailing her at jschott@kumc.edu.
The student completes the appropriate eligibility form(s) (available
here in Acrobat PDF format) and sends it to the appropriate Assistant
Dean for review.
The Assistant Dean informs the student in writing (letter or
email), with a copy to Linda Deneke in the Office of Academic Affairs, of
his or her eligibility (or ineligibility) to take the challenge exam.
After receiving written approval from the appropriate
Assistant Dean, the student informs Linda Deneke by writing to her at:
Linda Deneke
University of Kansas School of Nursing
3901 Rainbow Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66160
or by e-mail ldeneke@kumc.edu
or by fax 913-588-1660 of intent to take the challenge exam.
The Office of Academic Affairs informs the student of the
dates for the challenge exam. If the student does not live in the Kansas
City area and cannot come to campus, the student must work with the Office
of Academic Affairs to find an acceptable site and proctor
in his/her community.
The student must submit a posting fee of $12.50 per course
prior to taking the challenge exam. Checks or money orders should be made
payable to the University of Kansas School of Nursing and sent to Linda
Deneke at the above address. In the event that the student is
unsuccessful, this fee will be returned to the student.
The student may take the challenge exam for each course only
one time. The student will be given 3 hours to take each examination.
Examinations are pass/fail. The minimum passing score is 70%. The student
will be notified of the results in a letter from the Associate Dean for
Academic Affairs approximately four (4) weeks after we receive the completed
exam. If a passing score is achieved, credit will be posted to the student's
permanent record.
The student is reminded of the PROFITS Pledge: "I
pledge that I will not give, receive, or tolerate unauthorized aid, nor will
I abuse academic resources while I am a member of this academic
community."
