Masters Challenge Examination Guidelines

  1. The student must be a BSN, certificate-prepared nurse practitioner and admitted to the Master's Completion Program. The student's portfolio review and acceptance must be complete. Upon admission to the program, the student must let his/her advisor know of the intent to challenge the Applied Drug Therapy and/or Advanced Pathophysiology course.
  2. The student should plan to take the challenge examinations prior to completing his/her first semester of enrollment. This will allow time to take the courses, in the event that it becomes necessary.
  3. The student must submit a posting fee of $12.50 per course prior to taking the challenge exam. Checks or money orders should be made payable to the University of Kansas School of Nursing and sent to Kim Rock at the following address:

    Kim Rock
    University of Kansas Medical Center
    School of Nursing
    3901 Rainbow Blvd
    Kansas City, KS  66160-7502

In the event that the student is unsuccessful, this fee will be returned to the student.

  4. If the student does not live in the Kansas City area and cannot come to campus, the student must work with the Office of Academic Affairs to find an acceptable site and proctor in his/her community.
  5. In order to allow time for grading and posting, examinations taken in the Fall semester should be taken on or before November 1st, in the Spring Semester on or before April 1st, and in the Summer semester on or before July 1st.
  6. The student will be given four (4) hours to take each examination.
  7. The student may take the challenge exam for each course only one time. Examinations are pass/fail.  The student will be notified of the results in a letter from the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs approximately four (4) weeks after we receive the completed exam. If a passing score is achieved, credit will be posted to the student's permanent record.
  8. The student is reminded of the PROFITS Pledge: "I pledge that I will not give, receive, or tolerate unauthorized aid, nor will I abuse academic resources while I am a member of this academic community."
