Instructions for Applicants
- Complete a University of Kansas International student application.
This can be accessed online at http://www.applyweb.com/apply/ukansgr/menu.html
Or a complete application packet can be requested by contacting

- Complete TOEFL exam. Information can be obtained from the following site: http://www.toefl.org/. For regular admission the scores on each part of the exam must be 23 or above with an essay score of 4 or above. Using the paper based exam scores on all parts must be at least 57 with an essay score of 4.
- CGNFS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) certification is required for all international students who plan to enroll in any of the advanced practice tracks (clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner or nurse midwife). Information about this certification can be found at: http://www.cgfns.org/.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Kansas is required for all international students who plan to enroll in any of the advanced practice tracks (clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner or nurse midwife). Information about this can be found by contacting gary.taylor@ksbn.state.ks.us.
- All other parts of the application are the same as for residents of the United States. This information can be found at: http://www2.kumc.edu/son/academicinformation/msadmissions.html.
Specifically one will need to submit the following:
- Application to the School of Nursing Master's Track (in addition to the International Graduate School Application).
- Letter clearly stating applicant's detailed personal objectives and specific career goals.
- Three letters of reference on the forms provided in the application booklet.
- Two copies of official transcripts of all college coursework.
- Resume listing all educational and professional experience.
- An informational personal or telephone interview with a School of Nursing representative. To schedule an appointment, call (913) 588-1619.
- An evaluative interview with faculty. Nurse Midwife, Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner applicants only.
- Physical Assessment Prerequisite Course form.
- Statistics Prerequisite Course form.
- $35 application fee. Please send check or money order.

ATTENTION: items 3 and 4 are necessary only for those doctoral students whose program of study will contain clinical courses in any of the advanced practice tracks (clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner or nurse midwife).

- official transcripts of all academic work taken toward the bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing.
- references from three doctorally prepared individuals who are able to attest to the applicant's ability to engage in scholarly activity (At least one reference should be from the applicant's nursing master's program.)
- Resume listing all educational and professional experience.
- An informational personal or telephone interview with a School of Nursing representative. To schedule an appointment, call (913) 588-1619.
- An evaluative interview with faculty.
- Statistics Prerequisite Course form.
