Summer/Fall 2009 for Fall 2010 Admission

Dear Undergraduate Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in applying for the bachelor of science in nursing degree at the University of Kansas. Basic students begin the nursing program in the fall semester. Students seeking an admission decision for military programs should mail a cover letter to Cynthia Schudel, M.Ed., indicating their plans.

The faculty, under the leadership of Nelda Godfrey, RN, PhD, Associate Dean, Academic Affairs-Undergraduate Programs, constantly evaluates and updates the curriculum in order to provide students with the most current information. Due to this, the admission materials describing the curriculum are for informational purposes and do not constitute a contract.

The online application link on this website will take you to Parts 1 and 2 of the online application.  The third and fourth parts require submission of various documents. These four parts are outlined below.

Part 1
Part 1 asks for your basic biographical data. Part 1 will be complete upon receipt of the $60 application fee paid online by credit card or e-check.  You will receive an email confirming completion of Part 1.  Upon completion of Part 1, go to Part 2.

Part 2
Part 2 includes an academic data form, an online method for requesting three references, and written interview questions. Here are tips for completing Part 2 of the application.

  • References: Gather the names, titles, and email addresses of the three people from whom you wish to request references. References should be requested from people who are able to describe your potential to be successful in the nursing program and as a nurse. You should avoid asking personal friends or family members.  Faculty, graduate teaching assistants, supervisors from work or volunteer experiences, or advisors/leaders from extracurricular or community activities would all be appropriate people to ask.
  • Academic data form: Gather student copies of transcripts from all colleges or universities attended so that you can refer to them as you complete the academic data form.
  • Written interview: The written interview is a series of questions in which you have the opportunity to tell us about your background and experiences.  We encourage you to review the questions, write your answers in a Word document, then cut-and-paste your answers into the appropriate textbox.

Part 3:  Document Submission Due October 15, 2009
After you submit Part 2, you will receive an email confirmation that the online portions of your application are complete.  However, your application is not complete for the October 15th deadline until we have received official copies of transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, the completed reference forms, and TOEFL scores (if applicable).  Please send all documents to me:

Part 4: Fall Grades & Spring/Summer Plans Enrollment Form Due
Applicants who met the October 15th deadline will receive a prerequisite evaluation form and a Spring/Summer Plans Enrollment Form by the end of December, 2009.  All late items, plus your Fall grades and Spring/Summer Enrollment form are due by January 15, 2010.  Your application is not complete without these documents and will be withdrawn from consideration if these documents are not received by January 15, 2010.

After submitting Parts 1-3 you will hear from us from time to time throughout fall and winter, with the Committee decision coming to you by letter in mid-March, 2010.

We look forward to receiving your application!

Sincerely,

Rita Clifford, RN, PhD
