International Students

For University policies, consult the University of Kansas Undergraduate Catalog on-line at www.catalogs.ku.edu/undergraduate. In order to expedite your enrollment as a foreign student, the Office of International Programs at the Medical Center needs to clarify certain matters in advance. Contact them through their website www.kumc.edu/international.

If you carry a Resident Alien “green card” or military visa, please send a photocopy of your card to:

Rita Clifford, RN, PhD
Office of Student Affairs
KU School of Nursing
3901 Rainbow Blvd., MS-2029
Kansas City, KS  66160

If you do not have a Resident Alien card, please contact Alice DeBauche in the Office of Student Affairs (913-588-1680) to request an F-1 “Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status” form.

Please note that no foreign student can enroll in any program until the Office of International Programs has official documentation of immigration status. In addition, be aware that as an international student, you are required to document means of support for each year of the program. Remember that international students by law are not eligible for federal financial aid. U.S. citizens are given priority consideration for employment positions.

English Language Requirements

All students whose first language is not English are required to meet the English language proficiency requirements established by the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC).  Please see the KUMC International Programs website for details: www.kumc.edu/international/esl_req.html. Original TOEFL scores must be submitted directly from the administering agency to the University of Kansas Medical Center by October 15. The University of Kansas Medical Center school code is 6895. See the KUMC International Programs website for TOEFL score requirements: www.kumc.edu/international/esl_req.html.
If you do not have the minimum TOEFL scores, your application will not be considered.  It is likely that you will need to take one or more courses in English as a second language. In that case, you should plan to spend one or more extra semesters at your current college to meet KU’s English language standards by passing the TOEFL with required scores.

For more information on English language requirements or other issues pertaining to international students, go to www.kumc.edu/international.
