Effective for those applying for Summer 2005 and thereafter -- The Graduate Record Exam is no longer required for application to the Master of Science in Nursing program.The Master of Science degree in nursing program enlarges the focus of nursing, using as its foundation the basic baccalaureate nursing program. Doctoral Programs

The PhD program in nursing at the University of Kansas School of Nursing is based on theory and research skills gained in baccalaureate and master's education in nursing. The focus is on the development of critical thinking, independent decision-making and evaluation. The student develops expertise in research methods related to the biological, social, and nursing sciences. Development and analysis of concepts and theories used in nursing education and practice are integral components of doctoral education.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

The doctor of nursing practice (DNP) at the KU School of Nursing prepares advanced practice nurses at the highest level of nursing practice.  The DNP offers sophisticated, cutting-edge experiences that help nurses actively engage in a complex, dynamic, and demanding health care field.  Skills in collaboration, innovation and evaluation, complemented by advanced practice nursing skills will prepare nurses to shape the future of health care.  Such advanced practice nurses will be prepared to provide patient-centered care that is evidence-based, contribute to the development of evidence-based practice, and pursue leadership roles in a variety of health care and educational settings.
