The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is designed to prepare graduates for professional nursing practice wherever health care may be needed. KU alumni work in hospitals, at community health agencies, as traveling nurses, in industrial health care settings, as geriatric nurses, as flight nurses and in other critical care settings. Graduates of our program quickly move into charge nurse and other leadership positions and are well-prepared for continuing their education through master’s and doctoral programs in nursing. The key word for describing our purpose is professional.
In addition to finding excellent starting positions at The University of Kansas Hospital here in Kansas City, Kan., recent KU School of Nursing graduates have been hired by such well known hospitals as Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md., and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
The BSN program requires a total of 124 credit hours. Sixty-two of those credit hours are in liberal arts and sciences prerequisite courses, and 62 of those credit hours are in the nursing major.
The University of Kansas School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs through June 30, 2023.
