Martha B. Baird, PhD, APRN, CTN-A

Assistant Professor

Dr. Baird is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is also in clinical practice part-time as an advanced practice psychiatric mental health nurse with children, adolescents, and adults in Lenexa, Kansas. Dr. Baird has had transnational clinical experiences in the Dominican Republic, China, and Uganda. She is a Certified Transcultural Nurse, Advanced (CTN-A), a member of the Transcultural Nursing Society, and founder and current president of the Kansas City Area Networking Chapter of the Transcultural Nursing Society. She is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Transcultural Nursing.

Her research interests are concerned with how culture influences the health and well-being of immigrant and refugee populations. She has conducted community-based participatory action research with Sudanese refugees and recently published a situation-specific theory of Well-being of Refugee Women Experiencing Cultural Transition.
