AMBC 976 Ambulatory Clinic in Dermatology (2).
This rotation is designed to give the student experience with diseases of the skin and common dermatologic problems. Student will work with one or more dermatologists in all phases of the practice. Student will experience a wide variety of problems including those relating to systemic diseases and will learn the principles of dermatologic therapy. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-Credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 977 Ambulatory Clinic Selective in ENT (2).
Student will observe the activities of a practicing otorhinolaryngologist and participate in the management of patients with ENT disorders. The student will observe and perform the examination of the anatomical areas and cavities of the head and neck. Student will accompany the assigned physician on all hospital rounds, during office hours and when possible, observe surgical procedures. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 978 Ambulatory Clinic in Ophthalmology (2).
This rotation is designed to familiarize the student with the private office and surgical procedures of a practicing ophthalmologist. Student will learn proper use of an ophthalmoscope and how to perform the ocular exam. Student will observe surgical procedures, and participate in hospital rounds and private office visits. The student will be directly involved in all patient care as provided by the assigned ophthalmologist. The course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 979 Ambulatory Clinic in Urology (2).
The student will experience urologic patient care during clinics in the office setting. Student will be assigned to the urologic service and perform history and physical and urologic diagnostic examinations. Student will attend surgical conferences. Student will see both pre- and post-operative patients and assist with minor out-patient surgeries. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 980 Ambulatory Clinic in Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine (2).
The student will function as part of the rehabilitation team including nurses, therapists and physicians and develop a working knowledge of the physiatric evaluation, including manual muscle testing, examination of joints, evaluation of neurologic and function levels. Student will become familiar with neuromuscular diseases, CVA, joint problems, amputee management, head and spinal cord injuries. Student will be involved in initial work-ups and management of patient progress. Student will also participate in rounds and consultations. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 981 Ambulatory Clinic in Sports Medicine (2).
The student will experience Sports Medicine Care in the ambulatory setting. The student will evaluate sports related injuries in the office setting and also have the opportunity to observe surgical treatment in the arthroscopic surgery suite. The student will have the opportunity to participate in the on site evaluation of athletic injuries through outreach sports medicine programming. Additional exposure to athletic training services will also be utilized. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 982 Ambulatory Clinic in General Surgery (2).
The student will experience general surgical patient care during clinics in the office setting. Student will perform patient work-ups including history and physical, learn to recognize acute surgical conditions and develop skills in surgical diagnosis. Student will also participate in post-operative patient care in the ambulatory setting. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 983 Ambulatory Clinic in Plastic Surgery (2).
The student will experience plastic surgical care during clinics in the ambulatory setting. Student will be assigned to the plastic surgery service and perform patient work-ups including history and physical, and plastic surgery evaluations. The student will experience both pre-and postoperative patient in the private office setting and learn management techniques of postoperative plastic surgery problems. The student will be introduced to hand surgery, skin tumors, congenital anomalies, and aesthetic surgery. The student will attend various surgical conferences and clinics. Teaching Methodology: Patient contact, both elective and emergent, rounds with attending surgeon. Evaluation will be based on patient workups, technical skills, rapport with patient, and surgical team. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 984 Ambulatory Clinic in Diabetes (2).
The student will learn to recognize and manage simple inpatient and outpatient problems related to controlling blood glucose levels in children and adults; discuss the psychosocial adaptation to their chronic illness; and perform as well as educate others in specific procedures involved in self care. The student will see patients with diabetes mellitus in the hospital clinic, attend team meetings, attend counseling staffing, do assigned readings, and report to the faculty. Evaluation of this clerkship will be based on rounds, conferences, lectures and performance on patient work-ups in the hospital and in the clinic. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit. Prerequisite: Senior standing.


AMBC 985 Ambulatory Clinic in Endocrinology (2).
During this rotation, the student will learn in the diagnosis and management of endocrine problems in children. The student will participate in inpatient management, hospital, office consultation and in a weekly endocrine clinic. Emphasis will be on the management of diabetes in children. Additional experience may be arranged through the Pediatric Department with other endocrinologists in the community. Evaluation will be based on rounds, conferences, lectures and performance on patient work-ups in the hospital and clinic. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit.


AMBC 986 Ambulatory Clinic in Genetics (2).
This course is designed to give the student exposure to clinical genetics and research in the field. Basic concepts such as Mendelian inheritance protein synthesis, human polymorphism and genetic heterogeneity will be taught. This course will be evaluated as Credit/Non-credit.


AMBC 987 Ambulatory Clinic in Addiction Medicine (2).
This elective will assist students to learn: 1) Diagnostic skills relevant to the identification of alcohol/drug dependency in patients of all ages whatever the presenting complaints 2) Management techniques including confrontation, inpatient and outpatient models of treatment, prognosis and aftercare including the role of community resources for patient and family 3) Preventive skills including an understanding of the epidemiology of addictive diseases and resources to identify and intervene with individuals and families at risk. The course will emphasize direct patient contact supported by required readings and didactic sessions with faculty members. Evaluation will be based on competence in this specialty at the end of the rotation, performance during the elective and completion of assignments. This course will be evaluated as credit/non-credit.
