What to Expect as a Sender
After sending your secure email, you will not
receive a notification that the email was sent securely; however, if you
followed the steps to send it securely, you can be
assured that it has been sent in a secure, encrypted manner. Your recipient
receives a plain text, KUMC-branded email containing notification that a secure
message has been sent from you. The notification contains:
- Your subject line without the "[secure]" in the subject line
- A web link at which they can view the message
Your recipient retrieves your email by clicking on web link to the KUMC
MessageProtect website and logs on to the site with a passphrase that they
create on their first visit to the MessageProtect system.
When your recipient replies to your email,
the reply will automatically be decrypted and will appears in your Groupwise
mailbox as a normal email. The primary difference is that the reply will
include the word "[secure]" at the beginning of the subject line of the email,
which indicates that it is a reply to your original secure email.
If you are considering using secure email.....
University of Kansas Medical Center
staff who use the MessageProtect secure email system should consider sending a
notification email or letter (see sample) to potential recipients before sending them
their first secure email. This will alert them that you will be
using secure email to communicate with them and explain how they can
correspond with you in a secure manner. Please note that, if
you send the pre-notification message via email, you should send it as a
normal, non-secure email.
