SEAD Introduction
SEAD (Students Educating and Advocating for Diversity) was brought to the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) in 1996 by Dr. Marilee Bresciani, former Assistant Dean of Student Services and Registrar. Dr. Bresciani originated this all-inclusive diversity organization at her previous institution and recognized the need for a similar organization at KUMC. SEAD began primarily as an administrative effort of less than a dozen members. Over the years, it has evolved into an organization consisting primarily of students from all four schools but also including faculty and staff from both administrative and academic departments across the KUMC campus. While now student-run, SEAD maintains close ties to the administration through a designated professional advisor in the Department of Student Services.
