Grant applications were made to the Fund for the Improvement
of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) and on the European side
to the Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG
EAC) in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. In September 2003 the
University of Kentucky, Lead Institution and the University
of Central Lancashire, U.K., Lead Institution were awarded
a three year grant from the EC-US Cooperation Program in
Higher Education and Vocational Training.
Program Summary: This project will provide opportunities
for students from the eight (8) participating institutions
to experience: (1) study in a comparable program at a foreign
site as they would at their home institution; (2) experience
the performance of their profession in the host country;
(3) expand their cultural horizons by participating in
a program that to date is not currently available for any
students in their academic program thus providing “added
value”; (4) mobility students will participate in
a unique course “Health Care Systems and Health Development” for
academic credit to be delivered by distance learning; and
(5) mobility students will provide feedback in order to
share their experiences with their respective home based
students who are unable to participate in this program.
The goals of the first year of the grant will be to:
establish the individual institution to institution
Memorandum of Agreements that are required for each of
the U.S. institutions with each of the EC partners
continue to develop the on-line course “Health
Care Systems and Health Development”
develop a “pre” and “post” test
for perspective students and those who complete the program
update our web-site and create a Consortium members
only site to “post” items and for discussion.
