The Institutional Research and Safety Committee (IRSC) ensures that
biological research conducted by KUMC faculty and students complies
with safety and environmental regulations and standards.
The IRSC is charged with the following:
Establish and implement institutional policies
that provide for the safe conduct of research involving recombinant
DNA, hazardous chemicals or other pathogens
Review and approve research proposals involving
recombinant DNA, hazardous chemicals or other pathogens for compliance
with standards such as the NIH guidelines
Set containment levels for research that involves
the use of recombinant DNA or other pathogens and protection
levels for research that involves the use of hazardous chemicals
Periodically review research projects involving
the use of biological and/or chemical hazards to ensure compliance
with institutional policies.
