Membership
Roles and Responsibilties
- Review at least once every six (6) months
the institution's program for humane care and use of animals,
using the current Guide as a basis for evaluation
- Inspect at least once every six (6) months
the institution's animal facilities, using the current Guide
as a basis for evaluation
- Prepare reports of evaluations and inspections
for submission to the Executive Vice Chancellor, or designee,
as Institutional Official
- Review any and all concerns involving the
care and use of animals at the University of Kansas Medical
Center
- Provide recommendations to the Director, Laboratory
Animal Resources and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Compliance
regarding any aspect of the institition's animal care and
use program, facilities, or personnel training
- Review and approve, require modifications
in (to secure approval) or withhold approval of proposed
significant changes in ongoing research, training or testing
- Review annually all ongoing activities involving
animals as research subjects
- Review and approve programmatic exemptions
(exercise for dogs, psychological well-being for primates,
housing standards, etc.)
- Sponsor training in the humane care and use
of animals to all technical and professional staff
- Committee has authority to suspend activities
involving animals
