Ongoing or Approved Protocols
All active (funded or unfunded) protocols must be reviewed annually.
Investigators must provide the following information:
- Whether or not the protocol remains active
- Whether or not procedures have changed and if so, how they have changed
- Whether or not the numbers of animals are still adequate and if not, how many are needed. Justification for increased number of animals must be provided
- Confirmation that current activity does not duplicate previously published data
- List of current research personnel
- Assurance that LAR training is current for all research personnel
Committee grants continued approval or inactivation based on information provided in the annual review.
De Novo Tri-annual Review of Active Protocols
- PHS suggests that all existing protocols receive an in depth review on a three (3) year cycle
- Pursuant to this requirement, protocols shall be expired three (3) years after initial approval
- Investigators will be given four (4) months notice prior to expiration of the protocol to permit ample time for re-write and submission of an updated animal care and use proposal
- Full committee or subcommittee will review proposal
- Review of the re-written, updated protocol shall constitute the 3-year de novo review
