All active (funded or unfunded) protocols must be reviewed annually.

Investigators must provide the following information:

  • Whether or not the protocol remains active
  • Whether or not procedures have changed and if so, how they have changed
  • Whether or not the numbers of animals are still adequate and if not, how many are needed. Justification for increased number of animals must be provided
  • Confirmation that current activity does not duplicate previously published data
  • List of current research personnel
  • Assurance that LAR training is current for all research personnel

Committee grants continued approval or inactivation based on information provided in the annual review.

De Novo Tri-annual Review of Active Protocols

  • Pursuant to this requirement, protocols shall be expired three (3) years after initial approval
  • Investigators will be given four (4) months notice prior to expiration of the protocol to permit ample time for re-write and submission of an updated animal care and use proposal
  • Full committee or subcommittee will review proposal
  • Review of the re-written, updated protocol shall constitute the 3-year de novo review
