Human Subjects Refresher Tutorial Instructions

The Human Subjects Protection tutorials use "Chalk", the same testing program used for HIPAA and Safety training.

In order to view these tutorials correctly, you should be using Internet Explorer or Netscape v. 4.0 or later, with your browser set to accept "cookies", and you should have the Adobe Acrobat™ Reader plug-in installed. If you do not have the plug-in, get your free copy here.

University Employees and/or Students

1. Go to the Chalk login page at https://www2.kumc.edu/chalk2/.
2. Select "University of Kansas Medical Center" as your institution.
3. Enter your KUMC network account username and password. This is the same information you use to login to the network when you turn on your computer.
4. Click "Enter Training"
5. You will be taken to your personalized training record. Here you will see a list of the online training courses available to you in CHALK. Select the option "Human Subjects Protection". Based on the descriptions provided, you will need to select either the "Human Subjects Protection Tutorial" or the "Human Subjects Protection Refresher Tutorial".

Guest Access

If you do not have a KUMC Groupwise account, contact one of the following staff members in the Office of Compliance for an account or click here for the Chalk Courtesy User Request Form. Guest Accounts are only for individuals not formally affiliated with KUMC who need access the Chalk online training system. Office of Compliance must authorize access before an account is created. If you are an employee or student at KUMC, please request an account through your department contact.

NOTE: You will also have guest access to HIPAA training from your training record page. If you are involved in human subjects research at KUMC, you are also required to take “HIPAA for Research Personnel”.

To Print Certificate:

After completing all 7 module quizzes of the full tutorial with a score of 85% or better, you will need to log back into CHALK. Click on "Human Subjects Protection". Select the "Human Subjects Protection Tutorial" option. You will see a link at the top of the page that reads "View or Print Certificate of Completion".

Note: You do not need to log back in to CHALK to print the certificate from the Refresher tutorial. Instead, you will automatically be prompted to print a certificate upon passing the Refresher quiz.
