Marc Asher, MD, professor of orthopedic surgery, presented the S.C. Fong Lecture Oct. 26 at the University of Hong Kong. He discussed "Polio Scoliosis, Harrington, and Spinal Instrumentation: A Humanized Story of Epidemic Medicine and Therapeutic Methodology." While there, he also participated in the 110th anniversary celebration of the medical faculty and presented one of the primary addresses, "Quality Spine Care: Everyones Concern." While in Southeast Asia, Asher performed surgeries, both at the University of Hong Kong and Singapore General Hospital.

The next Faculty Development Workshop, sponsored by the medical education support unit, will be from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Jan. 16 in Sudler Auditorium at the Kansas City campus. Bob Klein, PhD, professor of anatomy and cell biology, will present "Effective Lectures." It will be broadcast via interactive television to the Wichita Room at the Wichita campus.

Tom Davis, CRNA, assistant professor of nurse anesthesia, presented a workshop for registered nurses Dec. 5 in Imperial, Neb. His topic focused on nurses administering sedation to patients outside the operating room. The three-hour workshop was sponsored through the Hayes Area Health Education Center.
Marc Fey, PhD, professor of hearing and speech, presented a paper, "Five Essential Principles of Grammar Facilitation for Children With Language Disorders," at the fifth Simposio de Logopedia de Madrid on Nov. 16.
