The Multi-Cultural Counselor/Psychologist will possess specific training and experience working with diverse populations including, but not limited to students of color, LGBTQ? students, as well as students of different ethnicities and immigration histories. Assess, diagnose and provide individual, group, and crisis counseling and psychotherapy to students of the University. Provide supervision to practicum students and masters-level practitioners working toward licensure. Provide input during case staffing, attend to as well as consult on cases of severe mental disorders and dual diagnosis. Provide outreach efforts to the campus community to promote mental health awareness. Coordinate, administer and interpret assessment batteries to appropriately evaluate clients. Provide recommendations to the director on the nature of difficult clients. Make referrals to community based health professionals regarding the clinical needs of students (e.g., hospitalization and psychological or psychiatric follow-up). Maintain client charts, write reports, and perform other administrative duties as necessary.
Masters or doctorate required in counseling, social work, and/or clinical/counseling psychology from an appropriately accredited college or university graduate program; licensed (or license-eligible) in the State of Illinois. Will possess specific training and experience working with diverse populations including, but not limited to students of color, LGBTQ? students, as well as students of different ethnicities and immigration histories. Preference given to those candidates with experience working with African-Americans.
