Position Description
The Center for Counseling & Student Wellness (CCSW) at Hobart & William Smith Colleges invites applications for a full-time, 10-month Psychologist to join our staff beginning mid-August of the 2014-15 academic year.

We are seeking a team-oriented generalist with strong clinical skills and appreciation for a brief, time-limited therapy model who wishes to join a dynamic, collaborative, warm and mutually respectful staff, committed to finding ways to better meet the mental health needs of a traditional-aged college campus population.

The successful candidate will be one who is committed to and values the variety of roles of the college counselor, including provision of individual and group therapy, consultation with campus constituencies, prevention programming, skills training, and crisis management. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated competence in group therapy, multicultural awareness and sensitivity, and a commitment to the values of a liberal arts, residential community.

Compensation is very competitive and commensurate with experience. The Colleges offer a generous benefits package. Professional development monies are also available. This is a full-time 10-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.


• Provide individual, group, and relationship therapy to students
• Evaluation and assessment of students in crisis
• Consultation to faculty, staff, students and students’ families as needed
• Walk-in crisis services and after-hours on-call coverage as part of the CCSW rotation
• Outreach and training for RAs, student leaders and other student groups
• Service to Division of Student Affairs committees as requested by supervisor
• Timely documentation of clinical services
• Coordinating an area of college mental health outreach or prevention
• Ability to be self-motivated and work independently while also contributing positively to a team-oriented environment

Minimum Qualifications
A requirement for the position is an earned doctoral degree from an APA-approved counseling or clinical psychology program. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to healthy and enjoyable work relationships and a collaborative working style. Preference will be given to licensed or license-eligible candidates and those candidates with prior experience working in college counseling centers or with traditional-aged undergraduate students. Candidates will be expected to attain NYS licensure in psychology within two years of starting the position.

Desired Qualifications
Preference will be given to psychology licensed or license-eligible candidates, candidates with prior experience working in college counseling centers, and those with experience or expertise in an area of mental health pertinent to traditional college-aged students (e.g., substance abuse prevention and treatment, eating disorders/body-image issues, stress/anxiety/performance-related issues, multicultural and identity issues, mood disorders, etc.). Experience and understanding of the core values associated with a residential, liberal arts campus, as well as experience in working with students from under-represented groups and identities is highly desired. University Description
The CCSW is a member of the Division of Student Affairs, and has as its primary mission providing direct clinical, consultation, crisis, and prevention services to traditional-aged college students via a brief therapy model. The Counseling Center provides mental health outreach and prevention services for the campus community and consultation to faculty, students, staff and families.
