Position Description
Three full-time post-graduate intern/fellow positions are available beginning August 11, 2014 and ending May 22, 2015. The residency is for the academic year, with the usual academic breaks. Residents will be responsible for providing: (a) short term individual, couples, and group therapy; (b) assessment and referral services; (c) crisis intervention and daytime on-call services; (d) outreach programming; and (e) psychological consultation to the campus community. Residents may also have involvement in training and mentorship of masterís level practicum students through Humboldt State Universityís Counseling and / or Social Work program. Residents will receive both individual and group supervision commensurate with the requirements for licensure.

The position is classified within the faculty unit and the salary is based on the new CSU pay scale for interns and residents within the faculty unit. Please call if you have questions with regard to salary. The position carries benefits. The residency is for the duration of the academic year (approximately 9 months), with vacation during Thanksgiving break, winter holiday, and spring break. Residents have staff privileges on campus (library privileges, access to employee wellness program, etc.) & the added benefit of living in an extraordinarily beautiful place.

Minimum Qualifications
The applicant must have completed a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology, or a masterís degree in counseling or clinical psychology (e.g., leading toward licensure as an MFT) or in social work (leading to the LCSW). The degree must come from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or an APA/CPA-accredited program and pre-doctoral internship meeting APPIC (Association for Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers) standards as CAPS is a member of APPIC.

Desired Qualifications
Interest and experience serving multicultural populations is highly desirable. Applicants with interest, training, and experience in the area of alcohol and drug abuse, crisis intervention, and/or Latino students are also particularly encouraged to apply.

University Description
Humboldt State University is located on the northern California redwood coast, in the community of Arcata (pop. 18,000). The hillside campus overlooks Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean, amidst the surrounding Redwood forest. As one of the smaller campuses of the California State University system, with about 8,000 students, HSU is known for its open and friendly campus environment. HSU has a national reputation for academic excellence, especially in the sciences. CAPS is housed in the Health & Counseling building on campus. Each resident will have a private office, with computer and internet access, and a video camera for supervision. The counseling facility includes a group room, a professional library, and a staff kitchen. CAPS consists of six professional therapists working as a team. Peer consultation is emphasized and constantly utilized in a supportive and collegial atmosphere. The staff is especially interested in residents who will support this type of work environment. Residents will engage in both formal and informal supervisory contact with all professional staff. In addition to supervision, residents will participate in our weekly case conference and training seminar. Professionals at CAPS represent a range of theoretical orientations.
