Position Description
Under the direction of the Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) Community Advising Network (CAN) Manager at Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), develop partnerships with 2 student service units and Ethnic or Area Studies Departments/Programs, to provide regular consultation and effective case management of student situations.

This Community Counselor position is located in Services for International Students and Scholars, and the Middle East/South Asia Studies Program, and provides the following services to these units. Assist all students, especially those from under-served populations. Respond to student needs and make referrals to campus resources as needed. Conduct outreach to students, faculty and staff about distressed and distressing students and other mental health issues. Provide intake evaluation, treatment planning, crisis intervention, case management and individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, with referral to other CAPS/SHCS staff as needed. Works closely with CAN Manager, staff of partner units and other CAN staff.

Minimum Qualifications
-≠Masterís or Doctoral level Clinical/Counseling Degree (e.g. MSW, MFT, Psy.D., Ph.D.) ≠Licensed in California, or if licensed outside of California, must obtain a California license within 6 months from date of hire.
-Experience and interest in providing culturally competent services to Middle Eastern and South Asian.
-Experience and interest in providing culturally competent services to International clients.
-Cultural sensitivity and experience working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or socio-cultural backgrounds.
-≠Experience treating diverse clients using short-≠term models of individual psychotherapy/counseling.
-Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis.
-Experience establishing professional work relationships.
-≠Experience outreaching to diverse groups.
-≠Experience developing, implementing programs of a psychological nature.
-Experience or interest in providing culturally competent services to International clients.
-Knowledge of the dynamics of socialization, displacement, transition, oppression, internalized oppression and accommodation, and activism as it relates to the emotional well-being of an individual.
-Experience providing group psychotherapy.

Desired Qualifications
-Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student service orientation.
-Experience working with international, historically underrepresented, or under-served student communities at major research universities.
-Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations.
-Ability to conduct research/program evaluation, analyze results and share findings.
