Position Description
The Center for Counseling and Student Development is a university based department which is responsible for providing comprehensive psychological services to all full-time undergraduate and graduate students as well as consultation and referral services to part-time students, faculty, staff, and administrators at Roger Williams University. Clients of the Center are typically between the ages of 18 and 25 with problems ranging from preexisting psychiatric conditions to developmental issues related to separation and individuation. Services offered include individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, consultation, psychoeducational programming and clinical assessments.

The Counseling Centerís dedicated staff consists of a licensed clinical nurse specialist, a licensed social worker, three licensed psychologists, three pre-doctoral interns and two post-doctoral fellows. Their orientations and interests are quite varied with an inclination toward developmental and psychodynamic perspectives. Although the emphasis is on short-term treatment, there is flexibility to provide open-ended treatment whenever possible. A consulting psychiatrist also meets with the staff for case conference every week. The Center enjoys strong collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, administrators and student groups. Through indirect services such as prevention programs, consultation, and outreach, the Center reaches the broader university network.

The post-doctoral fellowship is designed to enhance the clinical skills and to support the ongoing professional identity development of the fellows while ultimately providing a specialty in university mental health. The fellows are viewed as professional colleagues and are given the support and training necessary to participate fully in service delivery within a university mental health setting. The fellows are encouraged to be actively involved in designing components of the training program to meet his or her individual needs. The post-doctoral fellows will conduct individual therapy, intakes for new clients, group therapy and crisis intervention. The fellows will also coordinate a weekly didactic session for the graduate interns and be involved in outreach activities including presentations, programs, workshops, and special topics. Research opportunities are available if desired. The fellows can expect to receive two hours of individual supervision per week which may be used towards licensure requirements.


Minimum Qualifications
The post-doctoral fellowship is a 12 month, full-time, non-renewable position. It requires a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology with a completed internship.

Desired Qualifications
Experience in a college counseling center as an intern or practicum student is preferred.

Roger Williams University is an independent, co-educational institution. The 140-acre waterfront campus in the historic seacoast of Bristol, R.I. provides an ideal setting for learning. There is easy access to a wealth of recreational and cultural resources.

Region Description
The campus is only 30 minutes by car from both Newport and Providence. Downtown Boston is about an hour away by car or bus, and New York City is a three-and-a-half hour drive. There are just over 4300 full-time undergraduates and 800 graduate and professional students.


Required Application Materials
Completed applications require a letter detailing your interest in the fellowship, a resume, a transcript for the doctoral degree, three letters of reference, two of which should be from your previous clinical supervisors, and an interview with the staff. We will begin interviewing in January. (Unfortunately we are not in the position to provide compensation for travel expenses, however we have utilized skype to facilitate the interview.)
