Position Description
Coordinate services, communications, advocacy, support and outreach for students identifying with disabilities.
Evaluate student’s registration information for disabilities services and supporting documentation to determine needs and eligibility. Identify and coordinate appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
Meet with registered students regularly to assess accommodations plans and make adjustments as needed.
Collaboration with staff from other Student Affairs and Academic departments to proactively meet students’ diverse access needs. Consult with the college’s ADA/Section 504 Compliance Officer.
Identify appropriate professionals, such as sign language interpreters, facilitate their contracting with the college, and coordinate provision of services. Hire, train, and supervise student assistants such as readers and note-takers, as needed.
Identify students’ Assistive Technology needs; maintain appropriate technology tools, and liaison with Library staff and Campus Technology Services to manage students’ access needs for educational materials. Train students and others on usage of Read Write Gold literacy software.
Maintain all reporting statistics and office records in accordance with professional, institutional and state guidelines.
Promote awareness of the Access and Accommodations Office and its services to students, faculty and staff. Respond to inquiries from current students, prospective students, parents, and others.
Supervise 2 counselors and 1 support staff member.
Work closely with the Learning Center and Advising Center staff and with campus faculty.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in school psychology, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, Special Education, Disabilities Studies, or related area, and 2 years experience providing disabilities services to students in a higher education setting. Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; familiarity with implementation in the SUNY system a plus. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty and staff. Excellent oral and written communication and computer skills. Strong working knowledge of Assistive Technology.
