Position Description
Responsible to the Director or equivalent higher level administrator.

This position/classification is considered a critical/essential position under the university’s designation of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) as an essential responder/s to any emergency (unplanned event) or threat thereof which disrupt operations within the university.

This position(CAPS) assists the Center Director with the administrative supervision of CAPS. The Associate Director also assists in planning, developing, and administering programs and services for the Center. The Associate Director may provide short-term counseling, crisis intervention, consultation and referral services for students and in extenuating circumstances, non-enrolled and/or non-students along with other University Community members.

Coordinates the post-doctoral fellows, pre-doctoral and pre-master’s training program for the Center. Responsible for supervision of pre-doctoral interns and pre-master’s trainees.

May function for Director or Associate Director for Clinical Services in his/her absence, and will be delegated responsibility for the overall direction and management of a specific functional area (training).

May conduct internal and external outreach services and professional consultation for students, faculty, staff, parents, and others regarding a variety of issues related to personal growth and adjustment, developing staff training programs and delivering presentations, and assisting the institution in designing methods of coping with persistent problems of the students.

May conduct research related to counseling and psychotherapy, understanding mental health characteristics and quality of life as it relates to academic/social/emotional functioning of college students, understanding the psychological and developmental needs of students, and program evaluation.

The Associate Director of Training may serve on University standing and ad hoc committees and perform related duties as required. The person in this position performs such other duties as appropriate to the general education welfare affected by CAPS or as assigned by the Director. The Associate Director will be involved in the national organizations for counseling center training coordinators.

May serve on SDES committees in lieu of Director.

May initiate and authorize involuntary examination (Baker Act) procedures in accordance with statute 394.463, Florida Mental Health Act.

The Associate Director may supervise professional staff pursuing licensure and will supervise graduate interns/trainees under CAPS’ graduate training program. Provide administrative supervision for up to eight (8) psychologists, mental health counselors (LMHC) or clinical social workers (LCSW).

Minimum Qualifications
Must be licensed as psychologist and meet requirements as established by the American Psychological Association, which includes a doctoral degree and a supervised practicum experience.

Desired Qualifications
-Three or more years of college or university counseling center experience preferred.
• Experience in the leadership and/or coordination of counseling center training programs preferred.
• Preferred candidate should have experience in providing clinical supervision to graduate trainees and interns and new staff members
• Experience in center administration and staff management preferred.

Special Conditions Must be licensed as a psychologist in Florida as specified by Ch. 490, Florida Statues, by 6 months from date of hire.
